Mykonos vacations: top things to do and see
#1 Stroll in Mykonos Town and have a cup of coffee in Little Venice.
The calling card of the Cycladic islands is snow-white houses with blue roofs, windows, doors, and also tangled and narrow alleys. Mykonos Town is a favorite place of all tourists for unhurried walks and a wonderful pastime.
Here, you will find countless boutiques and souvenir shops, extraordinary museums and exhibitions, cozy cafes and snack bars, colorful houses with incredibly beautiful bougainvillea, the most famous bars and clubs. In general, the heart and soul of Mykonos are all found here.
After your walk, do not forget to stop by a cafe for a coffee or a cocktail in the most western part of the town called Little Venice. From the sea, this part of the island looks like a picture – snow-white houses of every possible shape with bright blue shutters, located right on the sea’s edge.
#2 Take a picture on the background of the windmill and visit a museum
Windmills in Mykonos were built in the XVII century. Once there were 28 of them, now only 7 remain. Windmills can be seen from anywhere in Mykonos Town. This is the first thing you can notice at the entrance to the harbor, since the windmills are on a hill, dominating over the entire surrounding area. Most of them are facing north due to the climatic conditions on the island: the strongest winds blow most of the year in one direction.
One of the historic windmills, called Bonnie, was turned into the Agricultural Open Air Museum. This museum is a branch of the Folk Museum, inside you can admire an extensive collection of agricultural tools, as well as some items related to the manufacture of home-made farm products.
#3 Swim and have fun at the beaches
Each year the beaches of Mykonos receive the blue flag of the EU – the highest award for cleanliness and environmental friendliness. The best beaches are located on the south coast since it’s less windy there.
For your Mykonos vacation, the beaches of Platis Yialos and Psarou will be the perfect relaxing spots. Here you will find everything for a great vacation: cafes and restaurants, diving centers, beach parties, gold sandy beaches, and picturesque landscapes. Note, that in high season umbrellas and sunbeds should be booked several days in advance and their prices are quite high.

You will have the opportunity to enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine on secluded beaches such as Fokos and Merkaria, away from the crazy crowds of tourists. You can also visit several neighboring islands in the Cyclades, such as beautiful Paros and picturesque Naxos.
If you are a fan of the legends and myths of ancient Greece, be sure to visit the legendary island of Delos. The ancient Greeks respected this island, where the gods of Greek myths Artemis and Apollo were born.
