THE BEST SWEET SPOTS IN ATHENS

If you are a “cake-aholic” as I am, then this list of the main sweet spots in the center of Athens is your ultimate guide to the best pastry-shops in Athens.

Since my office is located in the heart of Athens, be sure that I personally tried all the sweet products in each of the shops and you will find my tips where and what is worth trying!

Are you ready?

CHOUREAL Choux & Profiterole (Diomeias 2-10, Syntagma)

69059 Choureal Choux Profiterole 07 624x800 - THE BEST SWEET SPOTS IN ATHENS

One of the best profiteroles I’ve ever tried. You can choose with delightful cream or ice cream filling, but the best part is a variety of the rich chocolate toppings ( I always ask for two different kinds) and at the top berries, nuts or more hot chocolate. Don’t believe me? Check my video on YouTube below

KONSTANTINIDIS Confectioneries (Stadiou 3, Syntagma)

The patisserie with a history. All sweets are tasty and fresh. Very popular place, especially for lovers of millefeuille. This airy sweetness with homemade cream is prepared right in front of you. You can choose classical (my favorite) or chocolate and they have different sizes.

MAKARON LONIS (Athinas 7, Monastiraki)

Who doesn’t love makarons? Makarons are two biscuits, made from meringue and almond, gluten-free and with a little sugar combined with jam, butter, or ganache cream. At Lonis Pastry Shop you will find them in an endless variety with natural flavours of fresh fruits and fillings. You can try all the 21 flavours and find your favourite.

ICEROLL (Athinas 2, Monastiraki)

If you also like ice cream like me, then this place is definitely you should visit. The first ice roll in Athens, which is prepared in front of you. You need to choose milk, flavour and toppings and with a little patience, it gets cooked to be served ice cold! The ice roll has so delicious milky taste that reminds me of the ice cream of my childhood. By the way, the portion is large enough, so you can take one ice roll for two.

LE GRECHE (Metropolios 16, Syntagma)

Another personal favorite place for ice cream. They don’t just serve ice creams, but also fantastic ice cream cakes and gelato sandwiches. Here you will find different flavors of ice cream from all around the world. My favorite is the pistachios flavor from Sicily and ricotta cheese ice cream from Crete.

DICKIE DEE (Voulis 23, Syntagma)

Again….ICE CREAM…but this time this icecream has a soft texture and comes with tasty “cotton candy”. Also try the salted caramel pop corn Pavlova covered with whipped cream and Fior di Latte soft serve. It’s hard to describe this pleasure.

LUKUMADES (Aiolou 21, Monastiraki)

The most famous authentic Greeks small freshly-fried donuts. Try one filled with Greek mastiha and kaimaki ice cream or a traditional one with honey.

HANS & GRETEL (Adrianou 48, Monastiraki)

Remember this tale? and this is the same gingerbread house. So beautiful and sweet decorations with all kind of sweets, ice cream, and waffles. If you don’t know what to taste – ask the girls in fabulous dresses. My advice: try the chimney cake with homemade ice cream and colorful topping.

FRESKO YOGURT BAR ACROPOLI ( Dionysiou Areopagitou 3, Akropoli)

Natural Greek yogurt with a spoon of homemade jam is the most favorite dessert of the Greeks. It is not only tasty, but also very healthy. You can choose between 2%, 5 %, 10% or a goat fresh yogurt with a spoon of jam or fresh fruits. And in the summer, be sure to try the frozen Greek yogurt, which cools well during the hot season. I also liked their cocktail of yogurt, banana, and jam of your choice.

LITTLE KOOK ( Karaiskaki 17, Monastiraki)

This place looks tasty from the outside, due to the amazing decorations for every season. You feel like you’re in a fairy tale when inside. The only downside is the queue to get inside. They might not have the best sweets in town, but for a cup of coffee and my favourite carrot cake it’s a must place for any tourist to visit.

My mouth’s watering just thinking about this places.

I’m sure that during your stay in Athens, you will find more great sweet spots to check out. If you visited this beautiful city and found other “sweet places” that you liked, please share with us in the comments.
